ABOUT ME

SOLOPRENEUR • ST ANDREWS WEDDING CAKE MAKER • ARTISAN

Hello, I'm Lesley a Scottish wedding cake maker

who loves baking, sugar art and cake design

with a passion.

My earliest memories are baking with Mum in the kitchen, and pottering in our garden growing flowers, fruit and vegetables.  My maternal granny was a cordon bleu cook, so I guess baking is in my genes.

I'm a wife and Mummy to two boys (one of whom is a black Labrador). Aside from family and cakes, I love all things outdoors.  I've always done so since I was a little girl.  Home is a small, peaceful village on the edge of St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, surrounded by open countryside.  This particular part of North East Fife is renowned for growing vegetables and soft fruit, as well as arable farming.  It's the perfect place for long walks and being at one with nature.

I started my, now, multiple award-winning cake business from home in 2013, just before my son began junior school. Baking and gardening remain two of my favourite things to do.   I also love to learn.  I have a social science Honours degree from a Scottish University and a Royal Horticultural Society qualification which I studied for at night school before having a family.  My RHS studies have really helped me, not just in terms of managing our garden at home, but in handcrafting sugar flowers and foliage for wedding clients.  It's funny how parts of life's jigsaw come together sometimes.

When it comes to baking and cake art I'm mainly self-taught, but I've honed my cake artistry skills with a number of leading UK cake masters - to whom I'm extremely grateful.  Sugar flower art has become a BIG passion of mine, and I love to combine colourful botanically-correct sugar flowers and foliage into my cake designs - either on their own, or in combination with organically grown fresh flowers and foliage.
